The Official Do Good Better Podcast Season Six Ep9: Workforce Development Expert & Author Kate Markin Coleman

In 2022, Workforce Development is more important than ever. Kate Markin Coleman joins Patrick to tell us all why and where nonprofits go from here.

Kate Markin Coleman has spent decades leading organizational and large-scale change in the private and social sectors. She began her career in business, transitioning to the social sector when she and her colleagues sold the fintech company they led. It was an opportunity to marry two mindsets. As EVP and chief strategist for the national YMCA movement, Kate established herself as an expert in pacing and sequencing change and using networks and stakeholder engagement to scale impact.

Kate’s years in the nonprofit world gave her an abiding belief in its power to do good. She also observed the many ways in which the sector underperforms its potential. First, as a leadership fellow at Harvard University and now in her board and advisory engagements, Kate advocates for the adoption of practices that enhance outcomes. She focuses on process/program improvement, cross-sector collaboration, analytics, and building equity into workforce development. She has written two books on these practices with her spouse Stephen Goldsmith. They are still married.
